Javi Shankar
Ravi Shankar, the legendary, Grammy winning sitarist and
composer is India's most esteemed musical Ambassador and a singular phenomenon
in the classical music worlds of East and West. A world-renowned musician,
composer, performer and scholar of classical Indian music, Shankar has made an
indelible mark on the popular music world, as well as being considered the
leading figure in the very elevated art from of Hindustani music. Shankar
composed the song “Sare Jahan Se Accha”, which is the most widely known piece
of music in India, second only to the national anthem. Shankar has also
significantly influenced other music legends. The Beatles’ George Harrison
studied with Shankar, influencing Harrison’s song “Within You, Without You”.
Harrison proclaimed, “Ravi Shankar is the Godfather of World Music”. Shankar is
also the father of popular singer/songwriter Norah Jones.
