Current Study
A Short History of the Early Church by Harry R. Boer This study provides a lucid and concise account of the peoples, places, institutions, events, and ideas that made a difference in the development of the Christian faith from the first through the seventh century.

Groups' Purpose
This class conducts an ongoing dialogue on faith and Christian convictions in contemporary life. Using in-depth Bible study and discussion, the group seeks to apply Biblical truth practically in relationships and community life.


Cowden Class

Topical Focus: Bible discussions & sharing our lives.`
Meets:
Sunday Mornings, 8:30 a.m. in Quad 3B
Leader:
Tom Rhyne Group Make-up: primarily men and women 55+  

Current Study
This class has weekly lessons from Smyth & Helwys Curriculum

Purpose
This community of believers enjoys studying God's word together, sharing times of fellowship and pursuing opportunities for ministry and service together. Meetings include Bible study and open discussion, along with time for sharing personal concerns and joys.


Followers of Christ

Topical Focus: Growing spiritually together as a group.
Meets:

Purpose
This class seeks to provide an environment for spiritual growth and fellowship with one another. In addition to Bible studies from the Old and New Testaments, the group is active in service to the church and the community.


Verity

Topical Focus: Scriptural perspectives on truth and meaning in life.  

Meets: Sunday Mornings, 9:45 a.m. in Quad 2B&C
Leader: Dr. Terry Eska. Group Make-up: primarily men & women 55+

Purpose
Verity: the quality or state of being true or real, serves as the overarching focus for this discussion group. Participants engage in a variety of challenging topics from a scripture-based perspective and they seek truth and meaning to apply in daily life.


Basic Training

Topical Focus: Basic life applications of the Bible.

Meets: Sunday Mornings, 8:30 a.m. in Quad 2B&C
Leader: Dr. Gordon Smith (retired Riverbend Pastor)

Group Demographics
Primarily empy nesters and early retirees, but open to all.

Current Study
Book of Revelation

Purpose
This foundational class is designed to deliver a basic understanding of the Bible and application of its truths to daily living. Selected readings of scripture are enhanced with informed interpretation and in-depth discussion and sharing.


Peggy's Class

Topical Focus: How the Bible relates to us today.
Meets: Sunday Mornings, 11:00 a.m. in Quad 4C&D.
Leader: Debbie Register

Group Demographic:
Primarily men & women 55+

Current Study: Free form, presently.

Group's Purpose:  Peggy's Class was taught for 22 years, by Peggy Vaughter,a Southwestern Theological Seminary Graduate, who graduated to Heaven, in October, 2006.  The class is now led by Debbie Register, with an open discussion of the Bible & how its teachings relate to us today. This is an enthusiastic class with good spiritual discussions and warm fellowship. Some of the members have been here since Riverbend started but we always welcome new visitors
