Sixers meet on Sunday mornings at 9:30 in The Student Center.
We want to welcome new sixth grade students and their parents to an all new
ministry at Riverbend Church exclusively for you called Sixers. Sixers is all about sixth grade students coming together to have a blast, hang out, and support each other as we
follow Christ. Here are just a few huge reasons why Sixers is a vital
ministry to parents and students during the sixth grade year!
1. The gap (emotionally, socially, spiritually and yes, physically) between
a 6th grader and an 8th grader is huge and the 8th graders have a hard time
overcoming that gap. It usually ends up creating discontent in the 8th
graders to be around 6th graders. There is a similar gap between
freshmen and seniors, but the seniors are more equipped to bridge the gap
(theoretically).
2. There are some life topics (like purity) that need to be handled differently
with a 6th grader vs. an 8th grader. Having 6th grade standalone allows you the
opportunity to do this with parents actively involved in this process.
3. Having a sixth grade only group creates a strong transition year between
the children's ministry world and the student ministry world. You can have some elements of both ministries
so that the change is not as dramatic. This also applies to the first time
parents of a 6th grade student.
4. Sixers also helps create a flow and excitement of participation -sixers
is "better" than children's and middle school is "better"
than sixers and high school is "better" than middle school.
