Reynosa, Mexico

Next Trip - Memorial Day Weekend.

Riverbend participates in weekend trips down to Reynosa Mexico, a town across the border from McAllen, TX. Normally we depart Friday mid-afternoon, and return about 8:00 p.m. on Sundays. We come alongside some of our poorest neighbors to provide more adequate shelter, safer drinking water and lend a hand to make life more sustainable. We have many opportunities for ministry to children, women, prisoners, and the homeless. We have, by partnering with Rohi Foundation, begun to develop a community outreach ministry in the heart of a colonia on the outskirts of Reynosa.

The Reynosa mission has evolved from high construction activity to lighter family projects that are structured to allow for volunteers to engage with the locals and serve in a personal way. We will build chicken coups, set up home gardens and train families on how to grow vegetables. We will spend time with families and children doing fun things around relating to each other. Spot construction mini-projects may come up and we will handle as many as possible within the workforce, budget and time permitting. We are also looking to secure Spanish study bibles and help adults learn how to use them. Children are welcomed and a reduced fee is offered for those under age 12. The sky is basically the limit as to what can be done for these families and all ideas are welcomed! Bring your own skills and apply them in meaningful ways!
